Tuesday 6 Jan. Committee hearing began amid a raging container fire. In the hours before Rep. Bennie Thompson brought down the hammer, the 45th president chivvied Rep. Kevin McCarthy in a radio broadcast, Reportedly left John Eastman to swim solo in shark-infested waters, and found that a never-before-seen video captured him in the Oval Office on Jan. 6, and its lead-up would go to committee.

Former President Donald Trump remains in the news, but not all publicity is desirable. After more than two and a half hours of testimony on Tuesday, he is so much worse for the wear. Already, six-in-10 Americans say Trump should be criminally charged for his role in the insurgency. That number is likely to increase as the hearings continue.

Former Trump Attorney General Bill Barr again stabbed the ex-reality show host in pre-recorded testimony, belittling his former boss’s allegations of election fraud in Fulton County. “The fraud allegations were bullshit,” Barr stressed.

Meanwhile, Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff and a committee investigator compiled footage outlining the Trump-driven plan to make state lawmakers trample on democracy. Trump and Co. targeted representatives and officials in Arizona, Georgia, and Pennsylvania. Victory had to be achieved at all costs.

Rusty Bowers, the Republican speaker of the Arizona legislature, for his part, picked up where Barr left off. Bowers’ testimony was moving, his faith moving.

“It is a tenet of my belief that the Constitution is divinely inspired,” Bowers explained. That he’s disapproving of an election “because someone just asked for it is against my being.”

The lawmaker did not call Trump a liar in so many words, but contradicting Trump, Bowers denied that he had ever called the election “rigged” or fraudulent.

Beyond that, he shredded ex-Trump lawyers Rudy Giuliani and Jenna Ellis — the latter’s desperate sidekick. “We have a lot of theories, we just don’t have the evidence,” Bowers recalls, affirming.

Bowers was committed to his oath of office and the United States Constitution. As an Old Testament prophet, Bowers spoke truth to power.

His belief in the foundational document echoed Rep. Barbara Jordan at Nixon’s impeachment hearing: “My confidence in the Constitution is whole; it is complete; it is total.”

Again, Georgia’s Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger hit back at Trump during the hearing. (Just weeks earlier in the Georgian Republican primary, Raffensperger defeated Trump’s attempts to strip him of the GOP nomination.)

“The numbers were the numbers,” Raffensperger said. “The numbers don’t lie.” Furthermore, Raffensperger specifically reviewed and rejected the election irregularities suggested by Trump. To be clear, the ballots were not shredded. Minors, felons and the dead did not vote in the peach state.

Despite Trump’s efforts to heavily arm Raffensperger, there were no voices to “find.” As the hearing progressed, the image of Trump resembling Tony Soprano more than the former leader of the free world solidified.

Once again, the sopranos was just fiction. These hearings made it clear that threat was (and is) part of the Trump campaign playbook. January 6 was just one play.

Witnesses appearing on Tuesday repeatedly testified to physical harassment. Ms. Wandrea ArShaye “Shaye” Moss, a former Georgia election official, was brought to the brink of the harassment she endured by Trump diehards. Moss says she doesn’t go to the supermarket out of fear.

Her mother testified that the FBI had ordered her to go into hiding, reminding us that the president’s job is to protect citizens, not endanger them. For the record, the mother and daughter shared a ginger coin, not a USB stick, as Rudy Giuliani and others suggested saw video footage of them counting the ballots.

These Election Results Should Scare Democrats Now

In his closing remarks, Rep. Schiff that this is not America. It sounded more like a hope and a prayer. Others would be different.

Malcolm Turnbull, former Prime Minister of Australia previously observed: “You know that great phrase you hear all the time, ‘This isn’t us. This is not America.’ You know what? It actually is.”

Reports are mounting that Trump is considering making another run for the White House. His future candidacy doesn’t seem to deter Mike Pence, his vice president, and Florida governor Ron DeSantis. Trump’s base will never let him down. Whether they ever slip away that slowly remains to be seen.

As we learned on Tuesday, the Big Lie is no longer a fact. On the contrary, it is now a matter of the heart, an article of faith for far too many. Democracy and the future of the Republic are at stake.
